Dave's Race Report:
Just thought that I'd touch base after the lovely weekend of Seattle racing: and give a short report on my races.
The Scratch Race on Friday really went my way. I found myself in an early breakaway of eight that contained many of the heavy hitters in the race and they were perfectly content on not having the pack bring us back. I worked whenever I could and I was just happy to be there and seeing the back on the pack getting closer and closer. With about 17 laps to go we lapped the field. After that I was allowed to relax as for whatever reason the pack just decided that we would take it easy (I guess no one thought they could gain a lap with 17 laps remaining.) With two laps to go I was sitting third from the front: right behind the two Strava boys from San Jose and from what I could hear them saying I was sitting in a fantastic spot. With a lap to go the sprint was on; Zak Kovalcik and Jame Carney got the jump on us all but I managed to get 5th in the sprint - which after gaining a lap meant that I was 4th!
Saturday was the Team Pursuit. I had never done one of these before but Ive always wanted to. My team was also put together pretty last minute. We had practiced our exchanges for about a half hour before hitting the line. Our plan was to just go as fast as we could; which we did, and it paid off. We ended up getting 2nd.
It feels great to have been able to step onto and share the podium with such awesome riders. Folks that not too long ago I looked at as though they were impossible to beat. It is also great to be getting back into race worthy shape after my nasty crash in San Jose. I'd like to see what I can do next while I'm not all busted up.
Thank you to all my team and sponsors! You guys are seriously awesome! I hope to see all of you soon.
